Albert Simons Center for the Arts - Charleston, SC

Published by Hank Gottschalk

As part of the multi-million dollar renovation to the Albert Simons Center for the Arts, located on St. Philip Street in the heart of the College of Charleston campus, CP&P’s Summerville Precast plant provided a Box Culvert style “Storm-Pass” system to Gulf Stream Construction for the project’s underground storm water management.

Because of the very tight site conditions, the precast “Storm-Pass” box culverts were produced in both single cell and double cell monolithic sections that were installed in a very unique layout. Several sections had monolithic closed end caps and others had equalization ports in order to allow storm water to move throughout the installed buried system.

Gulf Stream Construction is a full-service general site contractor headquartered in Charleston, South Carolina. They also have an additional operation in Pooler, Georgia serving the Beaufort / Savannah region.

When the renovation is complete, the updated Simons Center will feature just over 99,000 square feet of classroom and performance space as “The Artistic Heartbeat of Charleston.”
